Health & Safety at Camp Southwoods

Heath Center

Our team of licensed nurses, PA’s, and NP’s live on-site and are always available for the medical needs of our campers and staff. We do daily medications three times a day and always have on-call medical staff for the unexpected bumps and bruises. We are located a short drive from hospital and EMS facilities.

Staff Certifications

Our waterfront staff are all certified lifeguards with additional certifications in the areas they teach. All ropes and climbing staff receive extensive belay certifications and trainings to maintain optimal safety. Trip staff are registered Trip Leaders and lead by a certified and insured Guide. All specialty staff also receive certifications in what they teach as dictated by the American Camp Assocation’s standards. In all things we do, we maintain the highest level of safety.

Staff Hiring

All Southwoods staff are background checked and extensively interviewed before they arrive at camp. We check a minimum of three references for each staff member after interviews to make sure each person is properly vetted. Staff that are selected then participate in an 8-day staff training covering a wide variety of topics, from serious to silly, to ensure they are fully prepared when campers arrive. Staff are held to the highest standard during their tenure at camp and are supervised and monitored by our Leadership team of trained and seasoned camp professionals.

Facilities

Southwoods is a gated camp. Entry is only permitted by our Office and Director staff.
